Archives Week in Arizona
POP FAIR ANNOUNCEMENT
Curious about what it was like to be an inmate in Yuma Territorial
Prison? Want to learn about the hotel that hosted John Wayne, Howard
Hughes, Carol Lombard and a couple of U.S. Presidents? Interested in
preserving your photos and wedding dress? Want to meet gunslingers? Then
be sure to visit POP Fair 2000 on Saturday, October 14.
The annual POP (Preserving Our Past) Fair provides an opportunity for
historical organizations to showcase many of Arizona's historical
treasures all at one place. POP Fair 2000 promises to be a real
humdinger, starting off with the Southwest Legends Gunfighters who will
emcee the day's activities and put on bang-up shows all day.
Special
features this year include re-enactors such as the Winslow Harvey Girls,
forty exhibits by historical institutions from across Arizona, continuous
entertainment, special activities for children and many educational
programs. If you enjoy Arizona history, this is the place to be, and it's
all free.
Pueblo Grande Museum, a major Hohokam archaeological site, will provide
free tours throughout the day. The museum is located at 4619 East
Washington in Phoenix.
