Re: A Description Dilemma

Elayne,

Others, referring to the Archivists Code of Ethics, have give excellent
advice on this subject. I will furthermore suggest that these three letters
may be among the most important in the collection because the survival of
such items is uncommon.

Our forefathers and mothers wrote lots of such things-they just didn't keep
them. During the Late Unpleasantness Confederate Cavalry in Tennessee
knocked off a Yankee mail train and rifled the letters looking for money
and sexually explicit letters. The haul was good on both accounts. And
yet, as you observed, 19th Century letters of this sort are scarce.

Breathe deeply, count your blessings, and honor the family that had the
courage to keep them.
