Ms. Robins,
and to those interested in the
subject,
The URL for Exlibris, "An Electronic News and
Discussion Group for those interested in Rare Books and Special Collections" is
not particularly easy to find. Now that I am
looking at my home browser bookmarks, it is readily at hand:
This page link give complete information on how to
subscribe to the list, along with information on accessing and searching the
Exlibris Message Archive. Hope you didn't get too exasperated trying
to locate it!
Persuant to the topic, I have cut and pasted a
message from the Exlibris Message Archive below: Though the
posting dates from '92, I think it will provide you with some additional useful
leads which you can begin to use immediately. Please keep us posted.
Best Wishes,
Theodore Grunewald Chief
Stolen Books Database
BAM-BAM, the stolen book database set up by the Leabs is still available. I believe you can reach BAM-BAM through the following methods: Katharine and Daniel Leab P.O.Box 1236 Washington, CT 06793 or 212-737-2715 For other sources of help, see my article in C&RL News, November 1990. Currently, the RBMS Security Committee is working with OCLC and ABAA to establish a database available on OCLC for librarians, booksellers, and law enforcement. I will provide more information as the situation develops. If OCLC asks if you would use such a thing, do say, "Yes!!!" Susan M. Allen, Chair RBMS Security
