Re: Access to the Stacks
I keep it simple. I explain that boxes with file folders and papers,
unlike books, can easily get messed up if folks can just go through them
on their own. I also point out the real danger of heavy boxes falling on
their heads or their feet. I explain that not every shred of paper is
cataloged because it is labor intensive ( again unlike books ) and a slow
process that takes time. Usually they are understanding and more than
happy to let me guide them through the process once they understand that I
am going to save them the time spent rooting around on their own.
