Re: College/University Archivists

It's been fascinating to see the responses to this as a person new to the
university archives game.

Butler University held its first classes in 1855; the first yearbook (The
Drift) was published in 1891 and features photos of several campus buildings
and formal group shots of several fraternities and sororities. There are
photos of earlier graduating classes and faculty. Why is there suddenly a
bloom of yearbooks in the 1890s? What was the social or technological
impetus? Inquiring minds want to know.
