Records Analyst

Background:
The UFT is the largest teachers local in the U.S. with 132,000
schoolteacher and school-related personnel members. The UFT Archives &
Records Center is located at UFT headquarters in the historic Flat Iron
District near Union Square in NYC. It serves as both an archives repository
for UFT's historical materials and as an active records center for UFT's
three main headquarters buildings and five borough offices.
Job Duties:
As Records Analyst for a large, dynamic teachers union, position conducts
records appraisal surveys and inventories in all UFT administrative and
program offices. Provides assistance with reference and research requets in
the collections and assistas with historical projects, programs, publications
and exhibits for the organization.
Analyses departmental records-keeping systems throughout UFT; prepares
records retention schedules for departments; documents records accessions,
transfers, and disposal within organization; helps update archives and
records management program policy and procedures; maintains a vital records
protection program; and provides training and supervision to records staff as
required.
Requirements:
Must have an undergraduate degree in history (graduate degree preferred),
with masters in archives administration or ALA-accredited MLS in library and
information studies with graduate archival courses and work experience. Must
have a thorough understanding of archival and records administration, as
acquired through coursework, internships, and professional workshops, with 3
to 5 years of archives appraisal, processing, and reference experience.
Position requires superb public outreach skills, both verbal and written, and
excellent administrative, managerial and organizational abilities. Must have
strong computer word processing and database skills, including microsoft
word,excel, access, with familiarity of MARC-AMC and EAD formats. Must have
a good sense of humor and a lively intelligence.
