Green-Wood Cemetery Walking Tour

By popular demand, the Archivists Roundtable of Metropolitan New York has scheduled a special walking tour of Green-Wood Cemetery on Saturday October 21st. Jeff Richman, author of Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery: New York's Buried Treasure and a longtime tour guide there, treated the Archivists Roundtable to a well-received slide show last February on this, one of the world's great cemeteries.

Jeff will begin the tour with a visit to the cemetery's record room, containing documents dating back to 1838. The tour will continue through this picturesque garden cemetery, visiting some of the historical figures, discussing recent changes, and reveling in its fall
foliage. The tour will last about 2 ½ hours and will involve some walking up and down hills.

Date: Saturday, October 21, 2000

Place: The main entrance gates to Green-Wood Cemetery, 25th Street and Fifth
Avenue, Brooklyn--south of Prospect Park and the Prospect Expressway in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn.

Time: 11:00 AM

Directions: By subway, take the R train to 25th Street, then walk one block up the hill
and into the cemetery. By car from the north, take the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, exit at Hamilton Ave., follow the road that is under the elevated expressway, keeping the expressway above your left shoulder, to 25th St. Turn left on 25th St., follow it straight into the cemetery.
