The Long Island Library Resources Council-Documentary Heritage Program
will be sponsoring two workshops in the month of November.

Workshop Title:  Introduction to Appraisal and Selection of Historical
Records
Presenter:  Claire McCurdy, Archivist, Union Theological Seminary, Burke

Library
Place:  Huntington Public Library-Branch Library

This workshop shows participants how to identify (appraise), evaluate,
and select records with potential historical value that are in private
repositories and settings.  It introduces core terminology, concepts,
and standards used by the archival profession relating to the appraisal
and selection of records that should receive ongoing care.

Presenter:  Ray LaFever of the New York State Archives
Fee:  0                Continuing Ed Credit:  .2hrs - Fee $5.

This workshop is for a non-government audience and introduces
participants to the basic components of writing a successful grant under

the Documentary Heritage Program of the New York State Archives. This
program would be of interest to those working in not-for-profit
archives, civic associations, historical societies, libraries, museums,
and similar institutions within New York State, as well as consortia or
cooperating groups of such agencies.  Projects to be carried out by
service providers such as historical service agencies, colleges and
universities, or other not-for-profit institutions or systems that
provide services to historical records programs, and(under certain
criteria)religious institutions, may be eligible for a grant.
