Floppy disks are a preservation medium? Surely the prints you make will last
much longer. How often are you going to recopy/migrate the disks?

Thankyou to Thomas and others who have responded to date. I'd be
interested in more comments on this issue - and will post the results
if others are interested.

On the 'disc' issue - I should have added that I expect we will
preserve the digital content in our digital storage environment
rather than the physical disc itself - but still want to retain some
sort of hard copy and have to decide which is the best 'hard copy'
way to go (though I suppose there will come a day when retaining hard
copies of things arriving in digital form will be seen as irrelevant?)

Re the digital 'preservation' issue, we are currently developing
'specs' for our collection management system to enable us to
accession what we are calling virtual (or digital) items - because we
are starting to receive born digital material (or material which
donors will only supply in digital format) and need to be able to
describe and store it.

Cheers, Sue
