Temporary Post NY: Information Management related



Title : Information Management Consultant

Purpose of the post: The Information Management Unit is a part of the 
Information and Data Management Section of UNICEF's Evaluation, Policy and 
Planning Division.  The purpose of the present position is to assist the unit 
in a number of information management related areas including: Geographical 
Information Systems; Intranet; Electronic Document Management; Internet.

Duration

Initially for three months.  Funding exists to end 2001.  There is a 
possibility of funding beyond 2001.

Tasks

· Assist with the specification and development of a system to allow for the 
acquisition, management and organization of statistical data on the situation 
of women and children and its ultimate display in the form of graphs, maps 
and tables on the UNICEF World Wide Web site.

· Update and maintain the Information Management Unit's presence on the 
UNICEF Intranet.

· Assist with the development of information management strategies, policies, 
and related procedures, and training materials.

· Assist with the development and implementation of a plan to effectively 
promote the work of the unit.

· Develop and implement a plan for continuously obtaining required content 
from EPP sections and having it processed for uploading to the UNICEF www 
site.

Skills and Experience Required.

Advanced university degree in an information management related area: e.g. 
information science, library science, records and archives management etc.

Not less than five years of progressively more responsible experience in 
working in an information management related area. 

Candidate must be thoroughly computer literate and have a good knowledge of 
computer-based systems used to support information management activities.  
Knowledge of computer based geographical information systems, and familiarly 
with tools and techniques for building and maintaining www sites would be an 
asset.

Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment an asset.  Knowledge of 
either French or Spanish an asset.

Familiarity with techniques for the collection and processing of statistical 
data related to women and children in developing countries would be an asset. 
 

Must be ideas oriented and have good communications skills.
