Job Announcement—Immediate Opening

--Managing Archivist, GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,Transgender) Historical
Society of Northern California.

--75% FTE (30 hrs/wk), two weeks paid vacation, full healthbenefits, small
budget for professional travel and/or continuing education.Salary $30,000 for
one year; position may be expanded to full time depending onsuccess of
on-going fundraising efforts.

--Job Description: The Managing Archivist for the GLBTHistorical Society will
be expected to oversee all archival functions. Specificresponsibilities
include but are not limited to management of archives-relatedgrants,
including a State of California-funded audio-visual preservation
anddigitization project; supporting executive director in preparation of
majorarchival grant applications to federal, state, local, and private
fundingsources; acquisition and accessioning of new collections; cultivation
offinancial contributions in association with donations of materials;
managementof collection control files, archival stacks, and reading room;
supervisingpreparation of finding aids in standard print and online formats;
patronassistance and reference services; training and supervision of
volunteers andinterns; liaison with other archival, museum, and
arts/humanitiesprofessionals, and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum of two years experience witharchival management and
practice, grant writing and grants management, andstaff/volunteer supervision
required. Masters degree in library and informationsciences strongly
preferred but not required. The successful candidate shouldalso be deeply
familiar with San Francisco Bay Area GLBT history and culture,and feel
comfortable working with a wide and diverse range of patrons andprofessional
peers.

About the Organization: The GLBT Historical Society wasfounded in 1985. Our
mission is to collect, preserve, and promote an activeknowledge of the
history, arts, and culture of sexually diverse communities inthe San
Francisco Bay Area and beyond. We offer a wide range of public history
programs, including exhibits,lectures, and classes. The heart of our
organization is an archives ofapproximately 20,000 cubic feet, containing
roughly 350 manuscript collectionsand organizational records, runs of 2300
periodical titles, tens of thousandsof historic photographs, and hundreds of
thousands of ephemeral items. We alsohouse a growing collection of fine arts,
graphic arts, textiles, andmuseum-quality artifacts.
