Formica in Exhibit Cases

Gang:
I have just been notified that in order to "save money", our new
custom-made exhibit cases for our new library building presently under
construction will have Formica as the bottom of the case, and not
metal. A search of Cool, the ConsDist List Archives, the NEDCC site,
and the NPS Conservograms reveal nothing illuminating about Formica.

Does anyone have any knowledge on why or why not Formica would be a
suitable material to construct exhibit cases with, due to preservation
or other concerns?

Thanks in advance.
Mark
