History Associates Incorporated, an archives, records management, and
historical research firm located in Rockville Maryland, is looking. HAI
offers opportunities for motivated archivists to work with a group of
dedicated and credentialed professionals providing information
management solutions to a wide variety of corporate, non-profit, and
government clients.

HAI currently has an opening for an Archivist in the metropolitan
Washington, DC area performing a variety of archival tasks on
collections of different sizes and levels of complexity. The work will
be performed at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda.

The successful candidates shall provide a range of archival tasks in the

survey, appraisal, arrangement, description, and digitization of the
papers of Nobel Laureates as part of the Digital Manuscripts Project
team. Primary duties include:

*   appraising and surveying collections;

*   determining the proper level of arrangement within each collection;

*   organizing each collection accordingly, while placing records in
proper archival housing;

*   assisting in the identification and selection of textual records and

photographs to be digitally scanned;

*   describing the donor's papers by means of an archival finding aid
and by electronic databases developed by the Digital Manuscript Project;

*   liaison with the donor and/or representatives of the donor; and

*   communicating project goals, objectives, and status to the donor
and/or representatives.

Qualifications for this position are:

*   Master's degree in library science or related discipline, with a
concentration in archival studies or supplemented by archival
course/seminars or practica;

*   at least eighteen months' experience conducting appraisal, survey,
arrangement, and description on archival collections;

*   demonstrable, practical knowledge of archival policies and
procedures;

*   ability to collect, organize, research, interpret, and submit
written descriptions of record groups and collections;

*   excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

*   responsiveness to a dynamic corporate environment;

*   ability to work independently and to exercise discretion,
initiative, and judgment; and

*   familiarity with major word processing and database software
packages.

Salary: low 30s, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits
package.
