Re: Newspaper Archives

Ken,

I hope this isn't too vague, but Cleveland State University holds the
arvchives for one of the Cleveland papers. (Of course, all memory of what
area at CSU has the collection & what paper it was has vanished from my
memory now that I can use it to help someone!) Cleveland State U. has a web
site that can be found easily. Or maybe it's Cleveland Public Library (which
also has a web site). I do remember that it was an extensive collection and
the person who was talking about it seemed nice & friendly.

I hope the rambling helps a little! Thank goodness the weekend is only 4
mins. away! :)

Subject: Newspaper Archives

Gentlefolk,

Hello, I am Ken Fieth, Metropolitan Archivist for Nashville and Davidson
County, Tennessee. We are a division of the Nashville Public Library. The
Library has recently acquired the entire archive of the Nashville Banner
newspaper. The Banner was in operation from 1875 to 1998. There are 1,073
five-drawer file cabinets of records in three series, Clippings, Photographs
and Negatives. The Archives has the bound papers from 1875-1952.

The Archives has been given charge of the negatives. They span 1936-1998 and
consist of approximately 546,000 images. They are indexed by date from 1955
to 1995.

Here are my questions for your consideration:

1. Anyone out there have a similar Newspaper collection?
..........
Your thoughts and comments are most welcome and appreciated,

C. Kenneth Fieth, C.A.

Nashville & Davidson County
