Processing Archivist. Union Theological Seminary, Burke Library, New York, NY.

The Burke Library is seeking an experienced processing archivist, preferably with a background in religion and/or theology, to process the papers of three presidential administrations at Union Theological Seminary. The collections for the project are estimated to comprise up to 200 cubic feet. The UTS Presidential Papers, which include broad documentation of the seminary?s response to the activist 60?s and 70?s, are of value not only to the study of theology and religion, but to future research in a broad range of humanities and social science disciplines.

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Archivist, the Processing Archivist will manage the appraisal, arrangement and description of the Presidential Papers. The Processing Archivist will prepare draft finding aids and MARC:amc worksheets for each collection which s/he will transfer, with the assistance of the Technical Services Department and the Seminary Webmaster, to the Library?s on-line catalog (SOPHIA), RLIN, and the Library?s website.

Requirements: A master?s degree in history, library science and/or a related field is required, as is experience in processing and cataloging extensive archival collections. Familiarity with the MARC:amc and EAD formats in archival cataloging is strongly preferred.

Hours and rate of pay: The position is full-time, 35 hours/week, and grant-funded with health benefits, expected to last for two years. The salary is $35,000/year.
