POSITION AVAILABLE:     RECORDS  ANALYST
                        LABOR HISTORY ARCHIVES
                        35 hours/week, excellent benefits
                      $40,000 (depending on qualifications)

The United Federation of Teachers in New York City is seeking an experienced
Records Analyst to work in its UFT Archives & Records Center.  The desired
candidate has an undergraduate degree in U.S. history (knowledge of labor
history preferred) and a masters in U.S. history/archives administratin or an
accredited MLS in library science with archival training and experience.

The UFT Archives & Records Center was founded in 1990 to preserve and
maintain the historical records of the organization and to provide records
management for all of the departments, borough offices and program offices of
the UFT.  The largest teachers local in the country, the UFT is affiliated
with the statewide teachers organization, NYSUT, and the national teachers
organization, the AFT, the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, in
Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:
In cooperation with the Director of the UFT Archives & Records Center, the
Records Analyst is expected to conduct records appraisal surveys and
inventories of UFT administrative and program offices in order to determine
records retention schedules and locate valuable historical records for
transfer to the archives.  The Records Analyst also provides assistance with
reference and research requests in UFT's historical, publications, and photo
collections and helps with UFT archives' historical projects, including
programs, publications and exhibits.
