Re: New Archivists

There are lots of opportunities for MLS students in New York some paid and some unpaid. First of all you can always volunteer at any archival or historical record repository. There are paid and unpaid internships also available. They are frequently arranged through you school. I know we've had paid and unpaid internships here at the New York State Archives as have several of the State Archive's regional offices. If your looking for paid work there are often archival or records management clerk positions available through various grants awarded to local governments and not-for-profits. I recommend that you contact the regional advisory officer (for local government projects) http://www.archives.nysed.gov/services/local-gov/region.htm or DHP archivist (for not-for-profit projects) http://www.archives.nysed.gov/services/grant/dhp-list.htm where you are interested in working.
