cigarette smoke and archival colelctions

Hello:
We recently accepted a large collection documenting one of Chattanooga's
(TN) historic neighborhoods. The collection consists of scrapbooks,
ledgers and minute books from the neighborhood association (dating to
the early 1900s) and other paper artifacts. Unfortunately, the person
who has stored the information for numerous years smokes heavily. The
collection reeks of cigarette smoke. I would appreciate any suggestions
ways to properly fumigate the collection and any cleaning suggestions
that might be appropriate. Thanks!
