Antebellum photographs

Greetings colleagues:

If I may, a query for the list - we currently have a number of patrons
looking for antebellum photographs of slaves, both portraits and "at work"
in homes and in the fields. I am aware of the daguerreotype series housed
(I think) at the Smithsonian; if I remember correctly, that series was more
of an anthropological study than a "portrait" series.

I'm pretty sure that the technology, the vernacular of the medium at the
time, and general social conditions of the day kept non-studio indoor and
outdoor exposures to a minimum before 1860 in the United States,
particularly in regard to slavery. Does anyone know of any collections that
contain images taken between 1840 and 1860 of slaves working outdoors or
indoors? Please reply to me and I will be sure to summarize the replies.

With thanks,
