Re: "Underpaid...and not Well Understood"

"Another factor is the inescapable and unpleasant fact that most people have
no need to use archives. Certainly, more people COULD find archival
collections useful than do at present, but our potential audience is, in
fact, not universal."

This the biggest problem. Trying to show the need for archives. This goes
back to a previous thread in which I suggested that archival organizations
need to do more outreach/advertising. What items in your archives could be
used as decorative material if reproduced. Take a look at an Applebees,
Fridays, Soup and Salad or any other theme restaurant for an example. What
material from your collection is publishable? marketable? reproducible
(sic?)

No the audience is not universal, but here are a few professions that can
and should use archives
interior designers (theatrical, set, movie included)
Graphic designers
Advertising agencies
Book publishers
postcard publishers
webdesigners
fashion designers
illustrators
calendar publishers

Think in a non-traditional manner. Develop a relationship with a local
journalist, develop a cable tv program for your local cable access channel.

Now back to proposal writing.
