Re: Ethics of Copies



I believe the purpose of an archives is to acquire, preserve,
catalog, and make available its holdings.  If it is not doing that,
then it is reasonable to deposit copies in a facility which does
provide those services.   If it IS doing that, it is unreasonable
in my opinion to wholesale copy collections simply so another
repository in the same locale has them.   I would refuse such
a request, though I would provide an inventory, hours, etc.
for visitors to my site.    I think explaining to one's superiors that
you are using their funding so another place has all your stuff
sort of defeats the purpose.
