HISTORIAN 9, 10, P11 - LOCAL GOVERNMENT RECORDS SPECIALIST

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Local Government Records Specialist is the primary liaison to the
courts and local government in the State of Michigan.  This position
strives to preserve records which are created by courts and local
government agencies that have archival/historical value, promotes good
record management practices, and insures the regular disposal of valueless
records so as to eliminate needless administrative costs.  Activities
include:  conducting record analyses and appraisals, providing advice and
technical assistance to local agencies on record keeping systems and the
use of information technology, and developing and conducting education and
training programs including the preparation of publications for government
personnel regarding the management and preservation of records.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  A master's degree in History, American Studies,
Library/Information Science,  or Archival management is required.  A
concentration in archives administration (minimum of 9 semester or 14 term
credit hours) is preferred as well as course work in records management
and the administration of electronic records.

EXPERIENCE:  No experience required at the entry level.

The desired candidate will have experience appraising records of an
institution or government, particularly local government; providing
advice, educational programs, or technical assistance in the areas of
records management, information management and/or archival
administration; developing written materials in archival
administration; administering an institutional or governmental archival
program; appraising, arranging and describing archival
materials; providing reference services in an organization whose primary
focus is archival services; providing education programs and technical
assistance in the administration of archival records; working with
electronic records.

SALARY
$15.34 - $21.42/hr
$32,029 - $44,724 annually
