Federal Agency Intranet Preservation

The National Archives is asking federal agencies to take a snapshot of their
public web sites to preserve the record of those sites as they were this
month.

Unfortunately, some of the most interesting material on federal government
web sites resides on the INTRAnets, or internal web site pages.

My research indicates that much interesting material is placed on internal
web sites, with rather little justification for keeping it nonpublic and
segregated from the public web site.

It is unfortunate that this material may be lost due to this oversight or
shortsighted decision to omit the intranets from the preservation.
