Just turned up on our acquisition shelf: The encyclopedia of ephemera,
by Maurice Rickards, ed. Michael Twyman (British Library, 2000). The
articles are full enough to make this a pleasant browse as well as a
reference source. I think it has been simultaneously published in the
USA. While Anglo-centric, it is quite international in outlook and makes
frequent reference to US examples - it even mentions ephemera relating
to such obscure activities as "Baseball" and "Football (American)".
Enjoy.
