Re: Wednesday wierdness

The earthquake was centered near Olympia, about 30 miles south of Seattle.
The damage is varied. Old brick buildings and buildings with false facades
were the hardest hit. In Seattle the most damage seems to be in Pioneer
Square, downtown. The Starbucks headquarters was hit pretty badly. Since
we are experiencing a drought we managed to avoid mudslides which could have
caused a lot more damage.

The 'quake has been downgraded to a 6.8. But still the strongest since 1949
(same epicenter).

All is well at my facility.

My brother, who works for a "large computing firm" in Seattle, called from
work to let us know that he felt the earthquake, he was fine, and he had to
get back to work. There was no damage at his office, nor at his home in
Redmond. There was undoubtedly more significant damage in other spots; the
NY Times was reporting an hour ago that it was a 6.2, and now they're saying
it was a 7.0 and there were a few serious injuries. But don't expect the
media to wait for facts, as long as they can report SOMETHING FIRST.

Perhaps our subscriber from the Microsoft Archives can provide more details?
Just out of curiosity -- does the MS corporate archives have a disaster
plan, and is it necessary to implement it, or were you undamaged by this?
