ARMA ISGs' Mid-Year Seminar, Atlanta Ga, April 3 & 4

Beyond 2001: Managing the Information of Science and Technology.
ARMA Industry Specific Groups (ISGs) Mid-Year Seminar, Atlanta Ga, April 3
and 4, 2001.

Emory University in Atlanta Ga, hosts this year's ARMA ISG mid-year seminar,
brought to you by a cooperative effort of the U.S. Government (Federal,
State and Local government ISGs), Education (Archives, Ed. Institutions, and
Educators), and the Health (Health care Services and Pharmaceuticals) ISGs.
The seminar will be held on April 3 and 4, 2001 at Cox Hall on the campus of
Emory University, which is adjacent to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC). The seminar will also include tours of the National
Archives Regional Facilities located in East Point, GA, and a tour of the
CDC at 2:30pm on April 4.

What better location and better time (Atlanta in the spring) to discuss the
challenges and opportunities of managing information and records created by
scientific and research institutions, both government and private. Amongst
the flowering azaleas and dogwoods there will be 21 sessions and four
networking sessions, related to the challenges faced by information managers
and others in scientific and research environments. The seminar will
include sessions of a technical and managerial nature as well as sessions on
the basics of records and information management.

A major focus of the seminar is the use of technology. This will be useful
to information and records managers, IT personnel, IRM personnel, security
personnel, managers, and others. We have brought in the best talent, and
the best expertise in information management and feel that attending this
conference will promote and improve the professional abilities of all who
attend.

Sessions on imaging, the Internet II, virtual archives, workflow, forensic
audits, electronic document management systems, maintaining CADD drawings,
maintaining e-signatures, neural net technology, and Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID), will provide a source for information managers
seeking the latest information on technology and how it is applied in real
world situations.

Sessions on electronic equipment policies, technology trends, litigation
risk management, security and electronic systems, and business process
development, will help those IT and management professionals be more
effective program and knowledge managers.

Finally, sessions related to starting a records management program,
challenges related to appraising scientific and technical records, record
center standards, the development of records control schedules in a
scientific environment, and records management training and awareness,
provide a wealth of professional information for the archivist and records
manager.

As part of its Networking Session, the State and Local Government ISG's will
join the Archives and Educational Institution groups for a presentation by
Bessie Karras, Wright State University, who will talk on archiving
Electronic Records in Institutional Archives. Since many of us in
government are required to preserve certain records "forever" - and pressure
is mounting to convert from paper and microfilm copies to
electronic-versions-only - this presentation should prove interesting and
timely.

and description of the educational sessions. You can register to attend the
