I am looking for some input from colleagues on the following issue

A donor wishes to give us a wonderful collection of manuscript materials
with the stipulation that the collection not be opened for fifty years.
While I regret that the material will be unavailable for that length of
time, its a restriction I can live with. However, the donor also stipulates
that the collection should be placed in a locked safe with the key kept in a
safe deposit box in another city, insuring that access to the safe, even to
archives staff, can only be gained through the donor. I've subtly tried to
tell the donor that this is overkill and also indicates a certain lack of
confidence in the archives staff--

Has anyone encountered such stringent access restrictions? Can anyone offer
up any compelling reasons I can use to dissuade the donor from insisting on
these restrictions

Please reply on or off-line, as you feel appropriate-

Thanks
