Re: Glass plate negatives

COLLODION NEGATIVES
1 Immage silver, has creamy-grayish-yello hue, although black-blue immages
exist
2 Emulsion shows tidal marks and various thicknesses, sometimes the edge
remains uncoated
3 Glass is usually thicker and is roughly cut & normally varnished
4 Collodian is dissolved by alcohol, and may be damaged by water
5 Glass may deteriorate; watery droplets may form on the inside of the
glass, also the glass can secrete fluids which attack the emulsion
Test: small drop of alcohol on the edge. Alcohol does not affect gelatin
Should be kept in a controlled atmosphere, constant temperature & humidity
