Position: ARCHIVES SPECIALIST
          GS-1421-09/09
Salary: $38901 per year - $50566 per year
Duty Location: 1 vacancy at SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY, CA

Major Duties: Assist the staff of the Historic Documents Department in
identifying, preserving and describing archival records relating to
maritime history. Assists with surveying and inventory of records,
arranging and housing them, and preparing finding aids. Assists with proper
maintenance, and control of archival holdings, and provides proper storage
of historic documents, and assists with basic preservation treatements.

Qualifications Required:
Applicants must have general and/or specialized experience. When specified,
applicants must also meet any Mandatory (Selective Placement) Factors
listed. Status applicants must also meet time-in-grade requirements and
time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this
announcement.

A combination of education and experience may qualify you for this position.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless
of whether compensation was received or whether the experience was gained
as a part-time or full-time occupation. Full-time work is generally
considered to be 35 to 40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will
be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate
clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position
and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Knowledges, Skills and Abilities Required:
Candidates should submit a narrative statement on a separate page(s) with
specific responses to the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) in this
announcement. Failure to submit your narrative response to the KSAs for
this job may negatively affect your eligibility and/or rating for this
position.

1. Knowledge of archival methods and procedures.
2. Knowledge of the application of information technologies to archival
description, management and the implementation of national standards for
data
structure, data contents, and data values.
3. Knowledge of methods and procedures for preserving records.
4. Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.

Basis of Rating:
The information provided in the KSA responses will be heavily relied upon
in the rating process. Applicants must prepare a concise narrative
addressing EACH of the KSAs listed. Show how your experience and/or
education provided you with that KSA. Responses must be separate from the
application form.

Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule:
Term appointment not to exceed 4 years.

Conditions of Employment:
Work requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over a
rough and uneven terrain.

Work requires lifting and moving heavy items.

This is not a drug-testing designated position.

Government facilities are required to provide a smoke free environment for
their employees. Smoking will be permitted only in designated areas.

Other Information:
Competitive status is not required for mentally retarded or severely
physically disabled applicants eligible for appointment under Section
213.3102 (T) or (U) of Schedule A, and 30% or more disabled veterans
eligible for appointment under 5 CFR 16.402 (b) (5),and veterans eligible
for a Veterans Readjustment Appointment (VRA) under 5 CFR 307.103.
