Processing Archivist

The American Jewish Historical Society, Waltham, Massachusetts, invites applications for a full-time Project Archivist. Initial appointment is for two years. The primary responsibility of this position will be the processing of the records of the National Jewish Welfare Board, including appraisal, arrangement, and description. The processing archivist will help implement an arrangement plan, identify records requiring basic preservation measures, and prepare a descriptive inventory. This position offers the opportunity to be involved in a major processing project from the earliest stages to the final product.

Organized in 1917, the National Jewish Welfare Board was a national federation of local agencies and social service institutions composed of two major parts: the Jewish chaplaincy corps of the United States Military, and a network of local Jewish community centers and Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Associations. During its history, the National Jewish Welfare Board was involved with meeting the social, cultural, intellectual, physical and spiritual needs of the American Jewish community. The papers in this collection include military, demographic, health and community data and help document the Jewish experience in modern

America.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS with archival concentration or MA in history with archival concentration. Experience in an archival setting processing large collections preferred. Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and planning skills required. Ability to work independently and with others, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Must be willing to shift boxes weighing up to 40lbs.

Salary: $29,000 - $32,000, commensurate with experience.
