Data Loggers for Remote Archives/Web-Based Data Loggers

Would anyone else on the list be willing to share their experience in
environmental monitoring of an off-site archives storage facility, and/or
their experience with web-based data loggers? We are currently seeking to
update our system of monitoring a remote archives storage facility. This
facility is maintained by our archives staff, but is located at a site
several miles from our main offices.

We currently have a Sensaphone 1000 remote monitoring system, which was
purchased about ten years ago. It includes an audible alert when certain
ranges of temperature and/or humidity are exceeded, a water sensor, and
sound level and smoke detectors. The system notifies us of alert conditions
such as these via a prerecorded alert message sent to a series of telephone
numbers programmed into the system (in addition to on-site audible alerts).
You can also dial into the system to get a verbal report at any time. Many
of the features have been very helpful. The system is older, however, and
has been experiencing some problems. It does not provide continuous data on
temperature and humidity, and can only be programmed from the unit in the
archives storage facility.

We are looking at a replacement system which would upgrade our capabilities,
and give us more complete information about temperature and humidity
fluctuations. We still want other sensors (such as water and infrared) to
be integrated into the system, and want to retain the ability to be notified
via voice. However, we need continuous monitoring (frequent sampling) of
temperature and humidity, and the ability to graph and analyze data. We
would also like to have the ability to program the unit from other locations
outside the storage facility, via PC.

I have information on many data loggers, but so far the only unit which
meets all of our specific needs for off-site monitoring appears to be the
Sensaphone 2000. Programming and data access is available from remote PCs,
via Windows software. They also have a web-based version of this model
currently in beta testing. The Internet Datalogger from Pinnacle
Technologies tracks temperature and humidity, but I understand it does not
yet support other sensors.

We'd like to investigate other available options, so that we can obtain the
best product available for our needs. We would greatly appreciate any
suggestions from others with experience off-site archives monitoring, or
with web-based data loggers.
