article about N Baker in American Libraries

The April 2001 issue of American Libraries has an article about
Nicholson Baker on p. 28-29, "Nicholson Baker Returns in Prose and
Prank." It summarizes his recommendations in his new book, and also
describes a hoax e-mail someone posted to the PubLib list suggesting
that N. Baker was going to raise money to build a computer-free
library. Unfortunately, some people took the hoax seriously. Mr. Baker
was upset because it give a fictional name for a supposed press
contact, with a phone number (at which no one answers). The author of
the hoax e-mail is quoted with some interesting musings on the fact
that people actually did take the idea of a computer-free library
seriously.
