Cotton Gloves and Photographs

In our department we require researchers (and staff) to wear cotton gloves
when handling photographs or other materials as books from the Rare Book
area. These are washed after one use. Our conservation officer has told us
that handling photographs with our bare hands can leave fingerprints which
can in time degrade the surface of the photographic print. Even "clean"
hands can leave fingerprints. You would be amazed how quickly your hands
secrete oil right after you wash them. Here are two web sites I located.
