Getting to Know
Your Library of Last Recourse
BPL
open book
The mission of the Boston Public Library is to preserve and
provide access to the historical record of our society and to serve the
cultural, educational and informational needs of the people of the City
and the Commonwealth. The Library serves as a municipal public library,
a research library of Last Recourse for the Commonwealth, a regional
library headquarters, a host library for an academic and research
library consortium, and a central site for a metropolitan area automated
network.
On May 16 and 24, WMRLS invites all interested library staff to
register and to join us to learn more about the specialized services of
the Boston Public Library as the Library of Last Recourse. Staff of the
Boston Public Library will present three specialized training programs
with information that will enable both librarians and the communities
that they serve to make better use of the vast collections of the Boston
Public Library. These programs are as follows:

Another way you can explore the collections and
curatorial resources of our Library of Last Recourse
is to read the curatorial reports prepared about each
subject department. The reports are word processed
and available via email.
In lieu of good descriptive bibliography for
collections, Curatorial reports are an alternate
resource of useful information when exploring the
scope of collections at our Library of Last Recourse
Boston Public Library.
