Re: Newspaper clippings

Dear list,

This request is for further clarification concerning the use of paper to
hold newspaper clippings after copying. I noticed many replies to the above
topic use the term "acid-free" and only a few use the term "acid-free,
buffered" paper for holding the newspaper clippings. Are these two types of
paper considered equivalent to archivists or are they two separate types of
paper?

In technical terms, acid-free paper is neutral in pH while the buffered
version contains alkaline fillers and is alkaline in pH. Acid-free paper
only has a weak buffering capacity and would not protect against acids as
well as the buffered paper. Also are both types easily available in the
marketplace?

Thanks for any assistance in this manner,
