Acquistion Review Committees

Greetings fellow listmembers,
I have a question regarding the makeup of Acquisition Review Committees.
We have recently established an official policy guideline regarding
collection of artefacts and it (naturally) includes a committee to review
potential donations/acquisitions and determine the suitability of an Item
for the collection. Naturally the Collections Historian, director, and
exhibit designer are all on the committee. It has been recently suggested
that we include individuals not directly employed by the museum, such as
Foundation members, and local museum supporters.

My question is what are your policies on this. Do any of you include
foundation members, and other such folks in your collections decisions? I
want to have some kind of general knowledge of how it's been done elsewhere
with more established collections practices. Thanks in advance.
