Position Announcement, University of Wyoming



Assistant Archivist, Audio-Visual & Reference, American Heritage Center,
University of Wyoming, Faculty Position.

Reporting to the head of the Reference Department, the Assistant Archivist
will maintain the American Heritage Center audio-visual collection.  Duties
would include retrieving material from audio-visual collections for
playback, transfer, or scanning; monitoring environmental factors and the
condition of materials and copying items to archivally stable media for
preservation or use by researchers; arranging and describing audio-visual
materials using a computer, database and recognized cataloging data.  This
position will also be responsible for supervising the reading room;
monitoring access of collection materials; assisting patrons in finding
materials appropriate to their research; providing tours and bibliographic
instruction to individuals and classes; instructing classes in historical
research methods; participating in special projects as required and
maintaining appropriate records.  Additional duties will include conducting
projects requiring special knowledge or expertise, such as developing and
preparing exhibits, writing articles for publication, developing
presentations, and promoting the audio-visual collection through educational
outreach programs.

Qualifications: Master of Arts in History, Archival Studies, American
Studies, Public History, Master of Library Science, or equivalent.
Professional archival training and two years of professional experience in
an archival setting or an equivalent setting is required.  Salary range:
$28,000 - $32,000, plus full benefit package.  Review of applications will
