Re: off-site storage and retrieval issues for archives
Lesley and others
the best thing to do is to issue a RFP with detailed TOS. The Off-site
vendors should bid for the business but don't go by the lowest storage cost.
Their is a nasty little thing called a "permanent out" fee aka "hostage fee"
amongst the RM community.
Here are some links that should help
http://www.paxton.com/recdstrg/select.htm
PRISM International (professional association for offsite records storage)
http://www.prismintl.org/
RECMGMT-L listserv archives
use the terms permanent fee, hostage offsite storage. This is a regular
topic on this list
http://lists.ufl.edu/archives/recmgmt-l.html
Make surprise visits to vendors to see what their facilities look like.
contact the ARMA Houston Chapter

Hope this helps.
