JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
3 NEH Grant-Funded Positions

The de Grummond Children?s Literature Collection of The University
of Southern Mississippi Libraries has received funding from the National
Endowment for the Humanities for a two-year project beginning October 1,
2001, to arrange and describe a 458 cubic foot collection of unique
manuscripts, typescripts, galleys, illustrations, dummies, correspondence,
personal papers, and other related materials of 73 authors and illustrators
of children?s literature. The collections of these creators are important
as a body of work within the field of children?s literature, giving insight
into the history and development of that literature in England and the
United States during the twentieth century.
In addition to the sorting and arrangement, a printed finding aid
will be prepared for each of the 73 collections. A collection level record
for each will be created using the Archives and Manuscripts Control (AMC)
format and added to the OCLC database. Each finding aid will be marked-up
in HTML allowing for full text access through the de Grummond Collection?s
World Wide Web page <www.lib.usm.edu/~degrum>. The finding aids will be
tagged according to the conventions of Encoded Archival Description (EAD)
and mounted on the Internet. This dual encoding will allow the maximum
number of researchers to have access to the finding aids at whatever level
of viewing is supported by their software.
Following are descriptions of the three NEH-funded positions. All
positions are full-time 40 hours per week. To apply, please send a cover
letter, resume, and names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of
