Lincoln Land Times for sale

Colleagues,

I was visited this morning by a person who hopes to sell a copy of "Volume
One, Number 1" of "Lincoln Land Times," edited by Bernice McClure Doyle.
The dateline is "Springfield, Illinois, May 4, 1865," but the newsprint,
typefaces, and cost (25 cents) indicate a paper sold to tourists 30 or 40
years ago. The contents appear to be transcriptions of actual articles
about Lincoln's assassination, return to Springfield, etc. I was not
encouraging, but I promised to put the word out for her, so if a repository,
presumably in central Illinois, would like to discuss the matter with her,
I'll be glad to send you her name and address.

She also had copies of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and
Bill of Rights in hand, but I passed on those, as well. 8-)

But the NEXT person through the door will have those Samuel Clemens teenage
love letters I've heard about --
