Coordinator of Reference Services
Duties/Description:
The Boston Public Library's Community Library
Services Office (CLSO), in close coordination with
the Regional Services Office (RSO), is seeking an
enthusiastic professional with a background in
library reference services to assume responsibility
for the development and management of reference
services for the entire Boston Public Library (BPL)
system.
The Coordinator will promote and enhance the BPL's
role as the Statewide Reference and Referral Center
for Massachusetts' libraries and as the Library of
Last Recourse for Massachusetts' residents.
This position will be responsible for the
development of policies and procedures affecting
the delivery of reference services in the branch
libraries, the General Library departments and the
Research Library departments.
The Coordinator will also participate in the
training and development of reference staff as well
as have an opportunity to work with the Systems'
staff to promote the use of the most current
technology in the maintenance and delivery of
reference services.
Qualifications:
ALA/MLS and seven years of related library
experience, including three years of work in public
service areas at a supervisory and/or management
level.
Proven ability to interpret and apply library
policy.
Successful experience in developing and providing
public service to a wide variety of audiences of
all ages.
Ability to develop ways of using new methods of
technology to enhance public services.
Specific experience and broad knowledge in
collection development, staff development and
delivery of services and resources in all formats.
Demonstrated oral and written skills as well as
familiarity with current and emerging technologies
and their applications to library services.
Desire to work in an innovative and progressive
environment.
Salary:
$49,195 to $66,412 DOE with a cost of living
increase of 3% due in October 2001.
