Our Boston Public Library needs descriptive bibliography
 and people to do it who are very knowledgeable about
 intellectual freedom,
 state FOI Freedom of Information public records,
 Open Meetings Sunshine principles and
 Open Government principles as well as
 The Library Bill of Rights,

   Head of Bibliographic Services - (MBLN)

   The Metro-Boston Library Network is seeking an
    enthusiastic professional with a broad skill base
    to help launch a new array of Bibliographic
    services for our membership.

    MBLN is a service of the Boston Public Library
    which provides an Integrated Library System to
    Boston, its 26 branches, and a dozen other public
    library, school and special library sites.


   Duties:

    The Head will develop services to acquire or create
    MARC records in all formats for current cataloging,
    will advise in retrospective conversion projects,
    and will train member staff in linking holdings
    information to the database.

    The position will play a key role in MBLN's
    selection and implementation of a new integrated
    library system and the introduction of new
    automated services such as Acquisitions and Serials
    control to member libraries.


   Qualifications:

    ALA/MLS and four years of professional experience,
    thorough knowledge of MARC formats, experience with
    Bibliographic database maintenance and Authority
    Control, solid foundation in computer skills from
    word-processing to record uploading.

    Experience cataloging on OCLC and other
    Bibliographic utilities is essential.

    Requires strong written and oral communication
    skills, ability to work flexibly in a team
    environment, and supervisory experience.

    Working knowledge of integrated library systems,
    MARC Format for Holdings Data, and cataloging of
    serials and electronic resources.

    Experience working in a consortium environment
    preferred.


   Salary Range:

    $41,500 to $56,040, depending on
    qualifications and experience.


   6. Benefits
       20 days paid vacation (Professional),
       10 days paid vacation (Non-Professional),
       15 days paid sick leave,
