Walking Advertisements

Colleagues;

We have recently come across a couple photographs in our collections of
women wearing outfits advertising various businesses such as a livery
stable, railroad, etc. In one picture the advertisements are painted
directly on the woman's clothing and she is also carrying a banner for the
business she is promoting. In another, the advertisements appear to be sewn
onto the woman's dress. The photographs appear to be late 19th century. I
would like to know if other repositories have photographs of this type in
their collections. Please reply to me off-list at cbowers@uwyo.edu.

Thanks so much,

Carol Bowers
