Position Announcement: Technical Services Supervisor, American Bi ble Society, NYC



Technical Services Supervisor.  American Bible Society, New York City.
Responsible for the development, implementation and managing of all aspects
of technical and automated services of the Library and Archives, including
retrospective conversion of its catalog and finding aids, the move to an
online public access catalog and database management.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the implementation and ongoing maintenance of
Endeavor/Voyager system; coordinate a bibliographic retrospective conversion
program; coordinate the processes for the digitization of indexes and
content of library and archival collections; create and maintain a citation
level, union bibliographic database, following MARC, SGML, EAD and other
appropriate standards; coordinate the Library and Archives networking
environment with the Information Technology Services Department to ensure
optimal performance and functionality; develop policies and procedures
pertaining to automated services; and coordinate staff training for the
effective and efficient use of library and archival systems; supervises
three staff, including one full-time and one part-time cataloger and one
technical assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS: Accredited Master's degree in Library or Information Science
and 3 years professional library or archives experience in a wide variety of
processing and service roles, preferably in a research, archives or museum
setting; experience in automation planning and implementation, including a
thorough knowledge of library and archives computer resources; in depth
knowledge of and experience with integrated library/archives systems
(preferably Endeavor/Voyager), as well as hardware and software as they
relate to the delivery of library and archives services; significant
experience using LC classification, as well as RLIN, OCLC or other
bibliographic utility; knowledge of current cataloging standards and
national trends in technical services; knowledge of and experience with the
USMARC format for bibliographic, holdings and authority data; ability to
train staff and end-users in the operation of electronic systems;
flexibility, excellent oral and written communications, interpersonal and
organizational skills; able to work as part of a team; commitment to
innovative approaches that improve the operations and services of libraries
and archives.

Salary low $50s with excellent benefits package. Review of applications will
