Description of Work
Position exists in the Government Records Branch, Archives and Records
Section. Employee is responsible for promotion and application of efficient
and economical records management methods and practices for records in both
electronic and paper formats. Employee serves as consultant to assigned
state agencies with responsibility for conducting surveys of records systems
in electronic and paper formats; for evaluating, inspecting and proposing
new or revised records systems and supervising installation; for consulting
on imaging systems, database records management, imaging and other
electronic records formats and issues, as well as non-paper media such as
micrographics; for providing information on laws and policies related to
records retention and disposition; for preparing and revising records
retention and disposition schedules; and for working with other agency staff
on development and application of retention standards and modules,
especially for electronic records. Work requires extensive public contact
with state agency officials and personnel within and outside DCR. Employee
acts as liaison with State Records Center on storage and retrieval needs,
presents training workshops on records management topics and provides
assistance in resolving problems related to management of records.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
**Met ESC requirements as of 08/26/01.**
General knowledge of records management techniques, principles and
procedures used in retrieval, storage, and disposal of records in paper and
electronic formats; principles and procedures of research, compilation,
analysis, and preservation of statistical information; and the principles
and procedures of paper and computer filing and classification systems,
microfilming and other recording systems general knowledge of the
organization and operation of state government and its functions. Ability to
design new or revised systems. Ability to express oneself clearly and
effectively in written and oral form. Ability to use personal computers,
word processing and associated software. Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with agency officials and departmental
personnel. Certified Records Manager (CRM) certification; proven experience
in developing records disposition and retention schedules; demonstrated
knowledge of computerized records systems and their component hardware and
software; and demonstrated ability to work as a team member without close
supervision recommended.

Training and experience requirements
Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of experience
in archival records or records management work; or an equivalent combination
of education and experience. Prefer additional directly related education,
training and experience as specified in the knowledge, skills, and abilities
and description of work sections above. Interviewing supervisor is Ed
Southern.
