    POSITION DESCRIPTION

July 17, 2001

TITLE:             Archivist (part-time, 10 hrs/wk)

PURPOSE:      Administer the archival collections of the university

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Solicit/receive collections from departments, faculty, staff, alumni, or wherever Hamline University related collections are found. Keep accession records.

Appraise, arrange, and describe collections, create finding aids and maintaining the existing database.

Physically store and care for the collections.

Assist staff in researching materials for the University’s 150th Anniversary in 2004.

Provide ad hoc reference service to faculty, staff, and the public.

Prepare exhibits, assist in special event planning and execution.

Supervise volunteer and student staff.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: University Relations - Jane Telleen, Asst. Vice President

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists and/or Bachelor’s degree plus advanced archival training either in a master’s degree program or archival workshops and/or Bachelor’s degree plus three or more years of archival work experience that includes processing and reference service.

Basic computer skills, particularly word processing and databases.

Capable of lifting 25-40 lb. boxes. 

HOURS: 10 hours/week
