Re: appraisers

Subject: appraisers

I know that supplying a list of appraisers may smack of the unethical
("preferred customers," throwing business to friends, etc.) but most ms. and
book appraisers are fewer and farther between than real estate or art or
furniture appraisers. Besides, there are good and better experts and it is
in everyone's interest to be accurate and competent. I supply a list of
known area appraisers and the website for the reputable Appraisers
Association of America <www.appraisersassoc.org>. If a local appraiser
gets wind of my list and complains, I will gladly include his/her name and
tell my donor whether I have or haven't used each appraiser.

AVOID having them use the numerous on-line web appraisers -- HORRIBLE! Be
sure you understand the USPAP standards and what elements make a legally
binding appraisal.

Sounds like a subject for an SAA workshop or session.
