Re: "good" plastic vs. "bad" plastic



To take this in a slightly different direction: Are there any reliable ways
of identifying one type of plastic from another by appearance and feel? I
know that old PVC takes on a slimely feel and excretes oil, but what about
newer material that hasn't aged that much?

What prompted this was a gentleman who came in this afternoon with an
irreplaceable collection of priceless, mint condition equipment literature
carefully sleeved in heavy plastic page protectors in a three-ring binder.
He had the sense to ask me if the plastic was safe, but I had no way of
telling what kind of plastic the material was.
