NARA Releases Inventory of 3-Dimensional Objects

NARA Releases Inventory of 3-Dimensional Objects
by Michael Ravnitzky , mikerav@ix.netcom.com

The National Archives and Records Administration has released an existing
list of three dimensional artifacts it holds within its collection.

A copy can be obtained by contacting:

National Archives and Records Administration
Attn: FOIA Officer
Office of the General Counsel
8601 Adelphi Road
College Park, MD 20740-6001

The document is a few dozen pages.

So far this inventory hasn't been placed on the NARA web site.

One interesting aspect is the number of intrinsically flammable or explosive
artifacts such as a sample of gun cotton or samples of dynamite which were
removed from the list in 1970 and destroyed. included in the list is such
diverse material as a Holocaust era German lampshade made from human skin, a
Civil War cipher wheel, pieces of Conestoga wagons, courtroom evidence such
as bullets from important military trials, congressional medals of honor,
garments from the war of 1812, etc. etc.
