ARCHIVIST, LABOR AND UNIVERSITY COLLECTIONS
                        SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
            UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON LIBRARIES

The University of Texas at Arlington Libraries is looking for a forward-looking individual interested in working in our Special Collections program area.  This position is responsible for all aspects of archival administration in the areas of Texas labor history, and the university archives.  In addition, the Archivist staffs the Special Collections service desk.  Complete job description appears at the end.

Qualifications:  ALA-accredited Masters degree or an MA in a
related field.
Preferred:  A.C.A. membership or course work in archival
management.
Minimum annual salary: $30,000.

ARCHIVIST, LABOR AND UNIVERSITY COLLECTIONS, SPECIAL COLLECTIONS, THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON LIBRARIES

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Labor and University Archivist is responsible for applying an
advanced level of professional skills to all aspects of archival administration in the areas of Texas labor history, Texas political history, and The University of Texas at Arlington Archives.  The Archivist works on the Special Collections service desk.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General responsibilities include:
*   works as assigned on service desk providing reference
assistance for all areas of Special Collections and applying the Special Collections Service Desk Performance Standards;
*   answers reference questions by telephone, mail, or electronically;
*   accessions and appraises newly acquired archival collections;
*   processes and/or supervises the processing of archival collections and compiles finding aids;
*   assures appropriate archival housing for collections;
*   serves as University Archivist;
*   serves as liaison with the professor in the UTA History Dept. who
specializes in Texas labor and political history;
*   oversees the accessioning, transcribing, and auditing of oral
history tapes;
*   participates in the Professional Advisory Council;
*   serves on divisional, library, and university committees as
appointed or elected;
*   participates in professional associations, workshops,
conferences, and meetings.  Contributes to the advancement of the profession and status of the UTA Libraries;
*   prepares monthly and annual reports of activities;
*   responsible for work area safety; takes prompt action to prevent
accidents or fires;
*   performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION
The Archivist works under the general supervision of, and within the
guidelines set by, the Program Coordinator, Special Collections.  The Archivist also works in the Archives work unit which includes the
Manuscripts Archivist, the Social Science and Humanities Research
Associate II, and the Library Assistant II, Photographs and Graphics.  The Archivist may supervise a student assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications include ALA accredited master’s or a M.A. in
history or a field related to the collections.  Preferred are coursework
in archival management, archival certificate, and/ or membership in the Academy of Certified Archivists and experience processing historical or archival collections.

Desired qualifications include training and background in history;
familiarity with Texas labor history, Texas political history and/or The University of Texas at Arlington; good organizational and interpersonal skills; experience in a service situation; supervisory experience; and familiarity with Microsoft Office.

CORE COMPETENCIES
Basic knowledge of NT/Windows/File Management, electronic mail
and scheduling, PULSe, and MS Word.
